Supreme Court has said that a Hindu son can divorce wife if she tries to separate him from aged parents. After marriage women becomes part of husband family and it’s her responsibility to care his parents. It’s also a moral and social obligation. But there is also need of some regulation that could protect interest of women also in case of fake chares of disregard of parents.

Yes, there is definitely a need of some safeguards as this lays a fertile ground for false accusations in which husband and in-laws will side with each other and probably conspire against the women. The safeguards should include giving a solid proof that a wife is indeed ill-treating the old parents in at least a couple of scenarios and not lonesome case. Time should also be given for the family to sort out their differences. In any case, maintenance should be provided to the women post-divorce. Although this judgment in this day and age with career oriented people and families when living separately is mostly a necessity, is a regressive step. This can be efficiently handled in other ways than making it  a ground for divorce, which is inclined to be misused.
